Mosman
Hampden Avenue /
This design evolved as a sensitive
modernist response to the locality and the immediate streetscape.
The design of the vertical stair shaft is a
transparent breathing glass skin, providing a ventilated core, good natural
light and a softening and blurring of the building to the street. The entry has
been articulated as a vertical mass with balconies forming horizontal planes
behind proud of the brick work. Our approach has been to layer the material and
bulk of the building.
The building has been designed using
sustainable principals and satisfies BASIX.
The two penthouse apartments have
photovoltaic cells fitted to the roof facing North which will provide around 40
% of their energy requirements.
We have located water collection tanks
under the proposed driveway which will be used for toilet flushing, Washing
machines and irrigation purposes that has a holding capacity of 10, 000 Litres.
The landscape plan incorporates a series of
deciduous trees which will allow sunlight to heat the glass stair shaft in
winter and provide shade in winter.
The narrow floor plate allows for a series of
perimeter windows with each room having access to natural light and cross
ventilation.
