Potts Point
Macleay Street /
The apartment is located within an art deco building in the Parisian
end of Potts Point. The apartment has been redesigned in a modern style
to maximize light, views and space. Elements of period interiors have
been reinterpreted in a contemporary manner using sustainable design
principles of working with recycled and reclaimed materials to create a
space that is clean, refined and warm. The project successfully
showcases how modern design can draw on references of the past
delivering a space that is relevant and sympathetic to its surroundings
and place.
As the apartment is a small space of 56m² the main objective was to
make a smallspace feel large. This was achieved by reconfi guring the
layout to be open plan, strategically locating mirrors to bounce light
and views so that the interior space appears toextend and continue. The
open space layout increases views of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour
Bridge, which were previously underutilized. The selection of reflective materials serves to increase natural light throughout the
apartment. Spaciousness was achieved by reducing the visual clutter
through modernization of the details.
