The existing building was a four-storey 1930's walk-up apartment block of
five two-bed apartments with commanding views over Balmoral Beach.
The scale of
the building and the views would not be attained under current planning law if
the building was demolished.
The structural and design challenge was to retain the shell of the building,
reconfigure the five apartments into three luxury apartments with underground
parking and a central lift. Provide a modern form that addressed the street and
responded to the position and location.
